Our Mission is to promote the prevention of cardiovascular disease, advocate for the preservation of cardiovascular health, and disseminate high-quality, evidence-based information through the education of healthcare clinicians. A global goal calls for global cooperation, and we need to learn from each other on how best to help our patients – those with established cardiovascular disease and those at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease – to achieve longer and healthier lives. I believe that scientific and educational conferences with the exchange of opinions of specialists from different countries are positively reflected in the accumulation of experience in the fight against cardiovascular disease. I call on my colleagues of actively participate in the work of the conference on preventive Cardiology 2024 and wish all the success.

Prof Anjum Jalal

I am pleased to know the initiative taken by the institute for Prevention & Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases regarding the prevention of cardiac diseases. It is well known that Pakistan is becoming the epicenter of Cardiovascular Diseases. Currently three out of 10 deaths in Pakistan occur due to cardiovascular diseases. Most of these deaths are due to coronary artery disease. There is rising trend of hypertension, obesity, diabetes and smoking. This has happened largely over the last four decades due to a rapid change in our life style. There has been a parallel increase in the consumption of industrial trans-fats, junk food and drinks with high sugar content. Nearly similar trends are noted in the incidence of congenital cardiac diseases due to high rates of cousin marriages and lack of premarital counselling. It is high time to take appropriate initiatives in well-organized manner to stop the increasing rates of heart diseases. Meanwhile, it is heartening to note that relevant professional associations in Pakistan have recognized the sensitivity of this problem and have taken up appropriate initiatives in the direction of preventive measures. In the recent past, Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAHA) has been successful in getting the legislation to increase the tax rates on sugary drinks. Currently, there is an aggressive campaign going on against the high content of Industrial Trans fats in various food products. I believe that the awareness amongst masses plays a very significant role in prevention of diseases. However, the success stories from the Scandinavian countries and Middle-east have proved that policies made by the government, if implemented in letter and spirit, make much bigger impact. It is the responsibility of the medical professionals, social scientists and professional organizations to guide the government in evolving such policies without delay. I am quite optimistic that this conference would produce important results in terms of achieving its goals. I congratulate the organizers of this conference for taking up this noble cause. Prof Sajjad Ahmad

We All are well aware of the rising trend of non-communicable diseases especially in the third world countries. The Cardiovascular disease still stand on top of the communicable diseases resulting in high mortality without gender discrimination any more. The non-communicable diseases even in post covid 19 era have significant impact on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Global climate and financial changes have dynamic effect on financial policies all over the world redirecting the health economics and budgets. The prevention has got the prime importance in all health awareness and management programs of WHO. However, prevention of non-communicable diseases has got pivotal role in control of cardiovascular deaths. The expected population growth rate is 6% in South Asia AND Pakistan has population growth rate of 1.96%. The health budget of developing countries is insufficient to meet the expenditures of current diseases. We have to focus on preventive strategies to reduce the disease burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases in Pakistan. Every one like government, health, professionals, allied health professionals, academia and community has to play its role. The aim of international congress is to share the knowledge and expertise and way forward to practice better preventive strategies for non-communicable diseases in Pakistan.
